Abstract

The development of social media has created a digital communication space that allows users to freely express their opinions. However, this freedom has also given rise to various forms of hate speech, including those with racist overtones. This study aims to describe the forms of racist hate speech in Acehnese on social media and identify the sociolinguistic factors influencing its emergence. The study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The research data consisted of user comments on the TikTok and Instagram platforms containing elements of Acehnese hate speech. Data were collected through online observation, documentation, and data coding techniques, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that Acehnese hate speech on social media is divided into four main forms: negative stereotypes and generalizations, insults and verbal harassment, discrimination and social exclusion, and dehumanization. The most dominant form found was insults and verbal harassment. Factors influencing the emergence of hate speech include group identity, speaker emotions, social media anonymity, and the characteristics of digital communication culture. Research findings indicate that language use on social media reflects not only its communicative function but also the social relations, ideologies, and power dynamics that develop in digital society
