Abstract

This study aims to describe spelling errors found in observation report texts written by students of class X IPAS 7 at SMA Negeri 9 Banda Aceh. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The data consisted of 34 observation report texts collected through documentation techniques. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed various spelling errors, including capitalization errors, word-writing errors, punctuation errors, and loanword writing errors. The most dominant errors were capitalization and word-writing errors. These findings indicate that students' mastery of Indonesian Spelling System (EYD V) still needs improvement. The results are expected to serve as evaluation material for teachers in improving writing instruction, particularly in the application of proper Indonesian spelling.
