Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in the use of flash card media on the early reading skills of elementary school students. The subjects in this study were 30 students of grade II of Sihoum Elementary School in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data collection techniques were carried out through reading ability tests consisting of pretests and posttests. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in students' reading scores after using flash card media. The average pretest score of students was 51.6, increasing to 72.53 in the posttest. The significance value (p-value) = 0.456 (p> 0.05). So the relationship between the variables of flash card media use and early reading skills is linear. The paired t-test produced a t-count value of 8.95 with p> 0.05, which means there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. The results of the normality test with Kolmogorov-Smirnov showed that the data were normally distributed, so that parametric analysis could be applied. Thus, it can be concluded that flash card media is effective in improving students' early reading skills. The use of this media is recommended for early reading learning in elementary schools.
