The policy of conducting review by the reviewer based on the background study of public health science. The reviewers, on their processed of reviewing the article, are required to fill out the form provided. There are 10 reviewers assigned. The Peer Review process is conducted through Single Blind, whom the reviewer’ name is unknown by the author. As for the obligation of the Peer Review is to give recommendation to the editor about the article sent to them and give suggestion to the author to revise their article.
The review process is conducted in some steps:
1. Manuscript Submissions
The manuscript submissions is conducted through online system by registering first and logging into the Majalah Kesehatan Masyarakat Aceh (MaKMA)’ system. However, in some occasions the manuscript submissions can also be done through email: makma@serambimekkah.ac.id in order to facilitates the author.
2. Completeness of the editorial
The first article sent will be assessed by MaKMA editor to know whether it will suit with the focus and the scope of study in MaKMA. The composition and arrangement of the articles are evaluated suitability to the established Journal Writer Guidelines. Other than that, the basic assessment will be conducted before the review process started. Every plagiarism of each article sent will be assessed with the minimum score of similarity is 25%.
3. Reviewer Designation
Editors send invitations to the qualified and independent reviewers based on their expertise and the topic of the article. Reviewers assigned by MaKMA are practitioners, researchers and public health experts who are qualified in their fields. The independence of the reviewers is maintained with double blind independence used in the journal. Therefore, the reviewer will not know the identity of the writer. On the contrary, the writer will also not know the identity of the reviewer. Articles will be sent to one to two reviewers.
4. Reviewer Approval
The reviewer can accept or reject the invitations from the editor. As for the reviewer who accept the invitation to reviewing the articles, the review process will continue and then returned to the editor.
5. Review Process
The reviewer allocates the time to read the article several times. The first reading used to create the first impressions of the reviewer towards the article and find the main problems. The reviewer can choose whether to agree, disagree, or applying conditional review of the articles. The conditional articles should be revised by the author from the correction given by the reviewer. The results of the review will later be given to MaKMA administrator.
6. Editor Checking
The editor will check the articles returned from the reviewer. If the review differs between the two reviewers, the handling editor can add more review to get additional opinions before making the decisios. The editor then give status to the author about the article sent.
7. Editor follow-up
Editor will send the email about the decision to the author includes the comment of the relevant review. The reviewer comments will be sent to the author related to the reviewer’ responses.
8. Final step
If the article accepted, the manuscript will be forwarded to the layout section. If the article rejected, then the information will be given to the author. If there is any revision, the author need to send the revised script back to the editor. The article will be published online and all are available as pdf files and can be downloaded freely.
