Exploration Of Active Compounds In Traditional Medicinal Plants Of The Community Of Aceh Besar District In Preserving Local Wisdom Of The Region

Abstract

The use of plants as medicine is closely related to the chemical compounds contained within the plants, particularly the active compounds they contain. The people of Aceh Besar are a society that still strongly adheres to their regional culture, such as wedding customs, Islamic holidays, mutual cooperation, regional specialties, and traditional medicine. The majority of the community still utilizes plants as traditional medicines as an alternative treatment for various ailments. This study aims to explore the active compounds found in traditional medicinal plants of Aceh Besar in preserving local wisdom. The sample consisted of people aged 60 years and above. The community utilizes medicinal plants to treat several ailments.by boiling, squeezing, applying/sticking, brewing, mashing, crushing, and some are eaten directly. Active compounds in medicinal plants include flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, tannins, triterpenoids, proteins, formic acid, fats, iron, vitamins, carbohydrates, potassium citrate, polyphenols, essential oils,carotenoids, steroids, phenolics, quinones, coumarins.
