Teaching Writing Skills by Using ChatGPT

Abstract

The primary objective of this research is to measure the level of familiarity, and students' perceptions of the effectiveness of ChatGPT in writing skills. This study validates the usefulness of artificial intelligence (AI) in contemporary education by showcasing ChatGPT's effectiveness in solving typical writing difficulties. This encourages further research and analysis into the many applications of AI technologies in educational settings, opening up new opportunities for innovation and efficient teaching strategies. Teachers can use ChatGPT to make the learning process more interactive and engaging while encouraging active engagement from students. The researcher is focused on English Department students.  ChatGPT can adjust its responses according to your input, creating a more personalized learning experience for your specific requirements and preferences. this research assesses students' familiarity with ChatGPT as a tool in their writing abilities by utilizing quantitative data gathered through questionnaires. The researcher records each participant's response to each question. Participants' answers will not be modified or guided to retain the research's authenticity. Data were obtained through a questionnaire and interview. Students from Banda Aceh's English department completed the questionnaire. The utilization of a mixed-method technique offered a full understanding of the research subject. From the research results obtained, ChatGPT is an effective tool for academic writing skills among university students. It helps various aspects of writing, from idea generation to grammar checking and final revisions.
