Exploring the Dynamics of English Learning: A Case Study at SMP 7 Sabang

Abstract
In the era of globalization, proficiency in English has become a fundamental skill to compete in various fields, both in education and the workforce. Therefore, an effective English learning process is crucial to support students' language competency achievement. This study focuses on analyzing the English teaching and learning process at SMP Negeri 7 Kota Sabang. It examines the techniques and methods employed by teachers to motivate students to learn English. Additionally, the study aims to identify the challenges faced by English teachers in the classroom. Data were collected through classroom observation and interviews with English teachers, and it was found that various teaching techniques were utilized, including lecturing and group discussion. The media employed by teachers included handbook, boards, and posters. Despite the use of diverse techniques and media, teachers reported ongoing difficulties. They noted that many students had low motivation in learning English, perceiving it as a challenging subject. This study highlights the need for further strategies to enhance student engagement and increase the overall learning experience in English at SMP Negeri 7 Kota Sabang.
